The Internet search engine Ask Jeeves specializes in answering the toughest, most obscure questions Web surfers can throw at it.

But even Jeeves can get stumped sometimes and it has now compiled what it calls the top 10 unanswerable questions of the past decade.

The list is based on more than 1 billion queries to the site since it began in 2000 and includes both the weighty and the trivial. Even TV mob boss Tony Soprano made the list.

The list of "unanswerables" is part of a new promotion to celebrate the search engine and its trademark butler's 10-year anniversary.

But ask Jeeves said it was also launching the page in hopes that people will be able to shed some light on the tricky questions.

Jeeves' Unanswerables

1. What is the meaning of life?

2. Is there a God?

3. Do blondes have more fun?

4. What is the best diet?

5. Is there anybody out there?

6. Who is the most famous person in the world?

7. What is love?

8. What is the secret to happiness?

9. Did Tony Soprano die?

10. How long will I live?

I've never had a question I couldn't answer using Wikipedia and/or Google. I remember using Ask Jeeves about a decade ago, for a VERY brief larf. I don't know anybody who uses it now, except for people who are new to computers. (And want a VERY brief larf!)

Your looney andre..it's a trick question. The extra dollar is for Harpers GST tax. You can't get a room without paying GST, believe me I have tried.

@Intelligent Liberal - You don't add the $2 to the total the 3 men paid, you subtract it, just like you did from each of the men ($10 - $1 = $9) Therefore it is $27 - $2 = $25, which is the new cost of the room.

@Al Actually #7. What is love? Is a song from Haddaway. 9 out of 10 gets you a seat beside Steve Jobs. Congrats!

These are not unanswerable - it's just a matter of finding/giving the "right" answer. Take the God question -the answer is "depends on where you live"! In Canada there are many Gods because that's the right answer here. In the US there is only one because "In GOD we trust" I know this is right because it is on the money and, as further proof, it is on the Indiana state license plate.

@ intelligent liberalThe answer is easy. They didn't pay $27...Once the manager gave back $5, the price of the room went from $30 down to $25. The remaining $5 then gets split as $1 for each of the 3 guys and $2 for the bellboy. Total is $25 1 1 1 2 = $30

Those aren't hard, this is hard:Three men walk inside a hotel and decide to stay for the night. They pay the price of $30 by splitting it so they each pay $10. They go up their room, but then the manager realizes that the price that night is $25 dollars so he sends $5 dollars up with the bell boy. The bellboy realizes that $5 can't be split by 3 so he pockets $2 and gives the men $1 each. But if you calculate it, the 3 men each payed $9, and 9 times 3 is 27, then add the $2 from the bellboy you got $29. Where did the last $1 go?
