KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Afghanistan is calling on the international community to donate H1N1 vaccine so it can to fend off the swine-flu pandemic, but it is unlikely to get any doses from Canada.

Canada's ambassador to Afghanistan says because of shortages in Canada, it will probably be unable to provide any shipments of the vaccine.

Bill Crosbie says discussions are underway to determine what other ways Canada will be able to help Afghanistan fight the spread of the virus.

Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health says more than 750 people have contracted H1N1, which has killed 11 people so far.

Schools across the country have closed for up to three weeks as the government tries to deal with the outbreak.

Canadian soldiers began receiving vaccinations last week.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
