Quebec's provincial election is less than one week away, which many Canadians may have forgotten given the crisis on Parliament Hill.

It seems many in Gatineau and the Pontiac have also lost interest, given the region's Liberal bent in provincial elections.

Some political experts believe the turmoil in Ottawa will benefit Liberal Premier Jean Charest in Monday's vote. The incumbent enjoys a significant lead in the polls, and observers say there's a slim chance his rivals from the Parti Québécois and the Action démocratique du Québec will catch up.

"So far he's ahead by 12 points and that's a significant lead," said Luc Juillet, a University of Ottawa political science professor.

"They need to grab people's attention, and it's very difficult in this current situation to do that and compete with events in federal politics. Time is running out."

Louka Jacques, a host for TVA Gatineau, said: "People aren't really interested because what's happening on the Hill right now is so historic that people are focusing what's happening in Ottawa, not in Quebec."

Voter apathy can also be blamed on political fatigue, with many in West Quebec telling CTV Ottawa they are simply tired of elections after the October federal campaign and the riveting U.S. presidential race.

"The Obama election was so prominent that people feel, even they did not vote, they almost felt as though they were part of it," Juillet said.

Auggy - Detroit, MI - You are a moron... and you clearly do not understand Canadian politics.
We do not need another election we need a governemnt with Canada's best interests in mind. That government is NOT harpers conservatives but the coalition. A coalition will represent the views of more Canadians then the conservatives AND is legal and democratic.

Yes the USA had an election and I enjoyed it as it played out, the American people have spoken and so it will be done. But I am Canadian and I hope that Quebers are paying attention and will vote their choices in to power as they should.

As for the federal mess Quebecers are being used by the three amigo's as they hope and pray you will be for them and in doing so will increase the membership of the Bloc and get them more power and if it goes wrong the three will turn on each other like a pack of starving wolves, Only Canada will be hurt in all of this as the world watches us, I don't think any other countries are very impressed with Canada right now. I hope that the GG can cause another election to be called, yes it will cost 300 million but better that than 3 Billion thrown around on their stupid idea that throwing money at everything is the good answer. We as Canadians have had to endure a lot to get us where we are financialy right now and their plan is to get us back under their control and make us jump through their hoops once again. Canadians it is up to us to get things going again so please don't turn away from this thinking someone else will take care of it (they won't)

Just a comment on Auggy from Michigan. You may have Obama coming into office next month, and all I hear from you is that we Canadians are complaining about our current political situation. What a change! We usually here it from the AMERICANS which we in the North are not we are Canadians (French, English and Aboriginal and other cultures as well). We Canadians had to hear about dumb and dumber for years. That would be Bush and his fan club. Give us a break, you may be stuck with idiots for 4 years or the American keep the ass for 8; however, in our political system the people are elected and if they do not perform Goodbye, Your fired! So which system is more democratic? I would go Canadian where the true American dream is lived.

I am proud of my country, and proud that we are being looked at from foreign countries, including the falling USA, on our financial regulations. Do not know about you, Christmas here is not going to be as stressful for those Americans who lost their home because of your greedy politicians and lobbyist.

Who in their right mind wants a Prime Minister run a government with only 77 seats? True Haper had a minority of around 145. Let's just have another election like the "AMERICANS". The one gets elected is bound by law to serve a term of four years. No short terms, ducking out.
We just had an election and,Obama like it or not will be our President until 20 January 2013 when he takes office next month.
We have no parties colaborating with the other.

Since I have had to listen to family and, friends in Canada for the last 50 years running their mouth about being like "THE STATES or, THE AMERICANS". Well here's your chance.

My other solution is to disolve Canada and, give it back to the Aboriginals. I hope you folks both "English and, French" will like your new Aboriginal alphabet where you have over 100 symbols instead of our Roman alphabet of 26 letters.

Yes folks you need an election without any campaigning, cut and dry. Then you can plan before the new Prime Minister is elected to start planning for another election in 2012 or, 2013 along with 2016 or, 2017. Instead of 37 days of campaining, now your stuck with two to four years.

The opposition should get rid of the three party leaders "Larry, Moe, and Curly." If these people ran for anything here in Detroit. Dion, Layton, and Duceppe wouldn't get my vote for animal control officer.

With the Liberals off balance Bob Rae and Jack Layton (both silk-stocking communists) have managed to make the Liberal Party look even more incompetent than the conservatives were able to. The sad part about this whole sorry story is that Mr. Layton has been working this deal behind everyone’s back for months. His next shoe to drop will be that the NDP no longer have confidence in the Liberal Government under it's current leadership and will ask that Mr. Rae be given leadership of the party till the Liberal convention in May and I don't mean Senator Elizabeth May.
I really feel sorry for Mr. Dion because he has been set up by his own party and the NDP and he deserves better. He and Mr. Harper were great advisarys and together could have gotten this great country through these terrible financal times.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
