The RCMP raid on the Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa again dominated question period in the Commons on Wednesday, with the Liberals demanding answers.

The Mounties, along with Elections Canada officials, executed a search warrant Tuesday at the Tory party offices. They were apparently looking for documents related to alleged Conservative irregularities during the last federal election.

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion demanded to know, "Why did the RCMP need the search warrant. Why?"

As he did yesterday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper insisted the raid was related to a civil court action that the Tories have initiated against Elections Canada.

The government agency had refused to reimburse the Tories for $1.2 million in advertising spending during the last election. Elections Canada said the Tories had surpassed their national ad allowance and refused to accept the Tory claims that local ads were not national in scope. The Liberals have said a civil suit would not involve search warrants.

Tuesday's raid may be related to a plan referred to as an alleged "in-and-out" scheme. Under such a plan, money would allegedly be sent to candidates across the country -- up to $50,000 in cash -- which they would then pay back to the central office, claiming it was payment for advertising.

The Conservatives claim that they did nothing wrong, and they would win their suit against Elections Canada. But Dion said the Tories have lost previous cases against the government agency.

The controversy descended into regular House of Commons theatrics Wednesday when Deputy Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff began a question with the suggestion that the RCMP had to enter the Tory offices wearing "bullet proof vests."

He was jeered by Conservatives forced to cut his question short. He then asked his question, this time without any reference to flak jackets.

"What does this (the raid) say about the prime minister's character -- his character," he asked.

On CTV's Mike Duffy Live late Wednesday afternoon, Liberal MP Garth Turner, who ran as a Conservative in the last election, said "This is a (Conservative) party that is not open and transparent any more."

Conservative MP Jason Kenney said the Tories have acted within the law and ran the last federal election campaign in the same manner as their opposition.

"Every single party does this in every single election. It's an established part of the election system," he told Mike Duffy Live.

Typical Conservative obfuscation. If they've done nothing wrong, then why were RCMP officers needed to raid their offices. This is the Tories screwing around loose and easy with people's money as usual. Shame on those who decry the Liberals for only doing what the Tories did to them when they had a money scandal. What, the Tories are allowed to cheat, but no one else is? That's nonsense!

The Conservatives spin doctors are hard at work again: Am amazing piece of work. But my friends; sooner or later your sins will find you out, and no amount of finger pointing will do you any good. You're on borrowed time; the voters are watching and you are planting doubts upon doubts in the minds of the voters . . . and they will pass judgment on you

Regarding CTV's headline--- I think the Grits have the answer. It's rather interesting that the Liberals had a TV crew at the Conservative Party headquarters when Elections Canada arrived yesterday morning. Would it be fair to conclude that the Liberals ARE in cahoots with Elections Canada?

All parties do this and only the Conservatives are refused reimbursement?

Seems the liberal sleaze in the civil service knows no bounds.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I cannot believe the Liberals have the nerve to get all high and mighty over this issue with all of the scandals in their closet. Is parliament becoming a circus rather than a reputable institution?

The opposition has become a blundering, desperate bunch of idiots, who are making bigger fools of themselves everyday, exponentially as the days go by. It's pathetic how they try and sensationalize every little thing, and try and instill fear in people, as they have always done. That's the way, of the extreme leftists. Oh yes, by the way Michael Ignatieff, Police in this country wear bullet proof vests as an issue piece of equipment, and it's mandatory to wear. Why don't the opposition just force an election, and put us out of this misery of listening to them everyday?

Let's hope we get to the bottom of this and soon.

As for the liberals, what do you expect, just more cheap political points.

Besides in this country, you are innocent until proven guilty

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
