MONTREAL — Dr. Henry Morgentaler says the Quebec government should reimburse women who have abortions in specialized clinics and women's centres.

Morgentaler told a Quebec Superior Court judge that it would be criminal for the province to do otherwise.

The noted abortion doctor was testifying as part of a classaction lawsuit filed against the Quebec government to win payments on behalf of women.

The lawsuit argues the payments are guaranteed under the provincial health insurance law.

Procedures done in hospitals are covered.

Morgentaler, a long-time abortion rights crusader, testified about his experiences in other provinces and his involvement in similar challenges, one of which is still before the Supreme Court of Canada.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
