VASSAN, Que. A funeral will be held today for Matthieu Allard, a Canadian Forces sapper who died in Afghanistan on Aug. 1.
Allard, 21 and Cpl. Christian Bobbitt, 23, were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Zhari district, west of Kandahar.
The two young men survived an initial attack on their convoy but were hit by a follow-up bomb when they left their vehicle to secure the area.
Allard served with the 5th Combat Engineers Regiment.
