CFB VALCARTIER, Que. A funeral has been held at CFB Valcartier for Cpl. Christian Bobbitt, one of two Canadian soldiers to die in a blast in Afghanistan on Aug. 1.
Bobbitt, 23, and Sapper Matthieu Allard, 21, died in a roadside bomb attack in Zhari district, west of Kandahar city.
Both men survived an initial attack on their convoy but were hit by a follow-up bomb when they left their vehicle to secure the area.
Bobbitt was a member of the 5th Combat Engineer Regiment, based at CFB Valcartier.
The men had been in Kandahar since March as part of the Royal 22e Regiment, or the Van Doos.
A funeral for Allard is to be held Thursday in Val-d'Or in northwestern Quebec.
A total of 127 Canadian soldiers have now died during the Afghan mission.
