As newly minted co-anchor of CTV News Channel's EXPRESS, Todd van der Heyden brings Canadians breaking news as it happens across the country and around the world on the daily afternoon program airing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

A cherished member of the CTV family, van der Heyden moves to CTV News Channel from CTV Montreal, where he co-anchored the flagship weekday 6 p.m. newscast since August 2008, alongside veteran newscaster Mutsumi Takahashi. The anchor chair was familiar territory for van der Heyden, who started co-anchoring the weekday noon news program in 2007 also with Takahashi.

Van der Heyden first made a mark on Montreal's top-rated English local television newscast when he joined CTV Montreal in 2000 as a general assignment news reporter. By 2001, van der Heyden was appointed backup news anchor for the station.

In 2003, Todd was promoted to reporter/producer of the new feature segment "On Your Side." The position included helping viewers solve problems, reporting on consumer issues, and conducting investigative and consumer affairs journalism. He has since filed numerous stories and his segment became one of the most popular features of the CTV Montreal news broadcast. By 2005, Todd became the co-anchor of the 6 p.m. weekend newscast, joining anchor Tarah Schwartz.

Van der Heyden spent five days in New York City on site at Ground Zero covering the aftermath the Sept.11 terrorist attacks. This remains one of the news stories that had a profound impact on van der Heyden, very early in his career. Other highlights include covering the riots in Quebec City during the 2001 Summit of the Americas and being a political reporter on the Charest Liberal campaign bus during Quebec's April 2003 provincial election.

A Montreal native, van der Heyden studied Journalism at Carleton University and Communication Studies at Concordia University.
