Throughout his career, Laurie has covered a wide range of significant news events including reporting from the front lines of the G20 Protests in Toronto (2010), anchoring coverage of the U.S Presidential Inauguration (2009), reporting from Obama's headquarters on U.S. Election Night (2008), covering the Air France crash at Pearson International Airport in August (2005), the SARS outbreak of 2003, and the 1998 Quebec and Eastern Ontario Ice Storm.

Other important stories Laurie reported on include the UN inspections in Ira; just weeks before the second Gulf War; Pope John Paul II's final visit to Canada in 2002 for World Youth Day; and the fallout from the second sovereignty referendum 1995 in Montréal.

In addition to his roles for CTV News Channel, he occasionally co-hosts CANADA AM and anchors for CTV NATIONAL NEWS.

In 1995 year, Laurie was honoured with the CBC Anik Award for Best Regional Documentary for a series called ADOPTION STORY based on a first-hand account of his biological mother's search for him. He was also a part of the CTV News team to received Radio Television News Directors' Association awards for continuing coverage of the 1999 Ice Storm in Quebec, and honorable mentions for coverage of the 1998 Thanksgiving Bus Crash in Charlevoix.

Before joining CTV in 1995, Laurie worked as a regional reporter in Toronto and Montreal for CBC News.

Laurie studied Broadcast Journalism at Concordia University and earning a BA with Distinction, before becoming a researcher at CBC's THE NATIONAL and CBC Newsworld in 1991.

Laurie is an active contributor to Surrey Place Centre in Toronto, an organization that provides assistance and guidance for persons with developmental disabilities.
