Janis Mackey Frayer, South Asia Bureau Chief

Janis Mackey Frayer is CTV's South Asia correspondent and reports extensively from Afghanistan and Pakistan. She currently lives in New Delhi.
One of Canada's foremost foreign correspondents, Mackey Frayer was based in the Middle East for six years and covered the region including wars in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. She has travelled to nearly 40 countries with extended periods in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, she has covered two Olympic Games, the deaths of Yasser Arafat and Pope John Paul II, and assignments ranging from forest fires in Greece to political unrest in Thailand.
Mackey Frayer's portrayal of acid attack victims in Pakistan was awarded the United Nations/UNDPI Gold Medal at the 2010 New York Festivals, where she also won World Gold in the category of Human Interest. Additionally, her reporting from the Gaza Strip earned a 2006 RTNDA Award, and she was a finalist for her look inside the rocket-making workshops of Gaza's militants. She has two Gemini Award nominations for 'Best Reportage'.
Mackey Frayer joined CTV's Ottawa bureau as a Parliamentary correspondent from Report on Business Television where she was a business anchor. She also wrote a weekly column for The Globe and Mail newspaper, became a regular contributor to Report on Business Magazine, and was a frequent speaker on the economy and financial markets.
Mackey Frayer studied International Relations and French at the University of Toronto and has worked as an anchor, reporter, host, and writer in Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Toronto. She speaks French and conversational Arabic.
She is married to photojournalist Kevin Frayer.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
