HALIFAX All skiers and snowboarders in Nova Scotia would be required to wear helmets under legislation introduced Tuesday.
Health Minister Maureen MacDonald says the bill would also require ski hill operators to post signs alerting people to mandatory helmet use.
But MacDonald says the responsibility of wearing helmets would rest with skiers and snowboarders.
She says inspectors would be hired to enforce the law, which could result in a fine of up to $250 for each offence.
She says there have been 11 traumatic brain injuries related to non-helmet use in the province since 2000.
The government says it intends to have the legislation in effect Nov. 1, 2012, if passed.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
