Two Florida brothers have come up with a creative, and touching, way to warn drivers about what they believe is a defect in early-model Ford Explorers.

Ryan and Gregory Miller's mother Nicole died in a rollover in 2004 after getting a flat tire in their family SUV. Her boys have since grown into talented musicians, and with the help of their dad, made a music video that both celebrates their mother and warns others about the cause of her death.

The boys' remake of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" features nostalgic video of their mother playing with her young sons. It also includes shots of the boys performing the track, both vocally and on the piano, and handwritten Bristol-board warnings about the dangers of the early-model Explorer.

"My mom had a flat tire in this car… And it rolled over," reads one of the signs.

"If you own this car, please stop driving it. You could get hurt. There are still many of these cars on the road. Our goal is to save someone's life," read others.

Speaking with CTV's Canada AM on Friday, Ryan said putting the video brought him closer to his mother, since he was quite young when she died.

"I don't remember much, but when I watch some of the old videos I have found, it makes me feel like I know her better," he said.

Since it was posted on Jan. 9, the video has gone viral online. It has attracted a lot of media attention, landing the Boynton Beach, Fla. brothers on talk shows hosted by Rosie O'Donnell and Anderson Cooper.

"We're in our own world and we get called by these big, cool TV shows like you guys and it's really awesome," Greg told Canada AM. "It's pretty cool to see your video on TV."

When asked what he hopes to gain from the video, he said they were hoping to help other families avoid tragedy.

"We don't want you guys to get hurt and lose someone," Greg said.

A statement issued by Ford this week said the company is "familiar with the tragic accident." It said that while the company feels sympathy for the family, it's inappropriate for them to comment further as the case is before the courts.

The explorer in the video, etc is a second generation explorer, not a first generation explorer.

While I feel for these individuals and their loss producing viral videos that lack context and factual evidence is not helpful. Tires do blow out and SUVs have a higher center of gravity and therefore higher rollover rate. Add in unknowns such as driver speed and road conditions and suddenly there are more factors involved. Producing a viral video comes from an understandable emotional place but blurs or obscures many of the important details in this case.

While my heart certainly goes out to the boys (what a moving video), and I'm not cynical enough to dismiss the public altruism in their effort, the "production" does strike me as, quite possibly, an opportunistic effort by their father -- nearly 8 years after the fact -- to draw attention to, and showcase the talents of, his musical sons. (The accident itself is a matter which stands as a case before the courts. I'm not sure of the legal merit it has.) This smells more than a tad exploitive. Not a comfortable judgment to be made.

Not this again - the whole Firestone tire, Ford Explorer debate again. Yes it's tragic these boys lost their mother in a car collision however, despite much mainstream media reporting, no defect or flaw has been found in the early model Ford Explorers. In fact, magazines such as Car and Driver and Motor Trend did a lot of rigorous testing and could not cause the Explorer to roll or whatever when it got a flat tire - as long as the driver stayed calm and reacted properly. Likely most of these "accidents" happened when drivers panicked or overreacted when getting a flat. And yes, the Explorer is a taller vehicle with a higher center of gravity so will be more prone to tip or roll. However, the vast majority of collisions are still due to the same thing - driver error. Unfortunately, this mother was likely one of the victims.

My heart goes out to these young boys for their lose, but what a wonderful way to pay tribute to their mother.

A well done tribute by the boys, I am sure mom would be proud.I was driving with a friend last week and she had a tire blow out on highway 24 between Brantford and Cambridge. Her first reaction when the tire blew was to over compensate and we ended up going down the highway sideways spinning out of control. We were in a Chrysler 300. If by chance she had of been driving her husbands Jeep we would of been rolling down the highway.SUV type vehicles have a mush higher center of gravity then a car and roll much easier.

First I have heard of this with the Ford Explorer. Story reminds of the dad with hot air balloon.
