Kanye West reached out to fans -- and those who hate him -- in a string of posts on Twitter this morning, addressing his on-stage interruption of Taylor Swift and remarks made five years ago about former U.S. president George W. Bush.

"There are people who don't dislike me… they absolutely hate me!" he tweeted.

West, a critically acclaimed and best-selling music producer, singer and rapper, found himself in hot water last year during the MTV Video Music Awards. When country music signer Taylor Swift accepted a best-video award, he interrupted her speech and said Beyonce deserved the prize.

"Beyonce didn't need that. MTV didn't need that and Taylor and her family friends and fans definitely didn't want or need that," West tweeted.

He also wrote: "Yes I was that guy. A 32 year old child."

Celebrities like West have embraced Twitter because it allows them to bypass media and speak directly to fans. In fact, he thanked the creators of Twitter in one of several posts Saturday morning.

"Thank you Biz Stone and Evan Williams for creating a platform where we can communicate directly," he wrote.

West also touched on an unscripted remark during a Hurricane Katrina telethon in 2005. As he stood next to Canadian comedian Mike Myers, he looked at the camera and said: "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

The remark came after widespread media coverage of the slow disaster response to Katrina, when photographs of stranded New Orleans residents were on the front pages of newspapers around the world.

"The media has successfully diminished the ‘receptive' audience of … KANYE WEST," he tweeted, adding "…taking a 15 second blip the media have successfully painted the image of the ‘ANGRY BLACK MAN' The King Kong theory."

West, who has been celebrated and reviled for his sometimes larger-than-life ego, also said he's trying to be more humble. He has repeatedly thanked his fans, and in the past week alone has given out two free songs on his website.

"I'm ready to get out of my own way. The ego is overdone… it's like hoodies," he wrote.

KW, "a 32 year old child" ?! He's only scratching the surface. In fact, he's the poster boy for everything that's wrong with the "modern music industry". The "music" is fake, computer-generated Muzak driven by thunderous bass and fronted by a moronic monotonic staccato vocal. The violent and confrontational bravado and attitude associated with rap, and demonstrated ably by KW and his ilk, is a valuable marketing tool, perfectly aimed at the clientele. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

....Kanye who?

awwww, did poor Kanye's record sales start to tank because everyone realized that he's a jerk? I'm guessing that this is an attempt to boost publicity for his new album. If we're lucky it will be an epic fail and he and his ego will fade away.

Taylor Swift is a fake country singer.

@ Rozay: Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. However, I would argue that, like most pop candy-rappers, he's more of a business "genius" than a musical (or political) one. Today, the insatiable entertainment media and softheaded young public dishes out golden opportunities for half-talented, overconfident, undereducated clowns like him.

Kanye West who? oh ya the Dork from the music award show. Did not care for him prior, during or after the show and almost forgot all about him until the media had to drag his sorry butt back infront of us. Obviously has lost out alot of cash lately and needs to kiss butt to get someone to like him.

He epitomizes the arrogant, superficial, materialistic goons who, with their ridiculous egos, drive the "rap" industry, a dominating segment of the music business desperately short on genuine talent and long on mindless and unqualified "attitude." (Do you like the use of voice-tuners in EVERY song, folks? Oh, yeah. I also love the inability to write an original tune, one that doesn't contain a "sample" or a blatant rip-off of somebody else's work.) Kanye West is a glorious entertainment imbecile. I'll change my unavoidable opinion of him when he demonstrates that he has truly reached adulthood and a respectable measure of humility. Talk is cheap.

In light of eternity this guy doesn't rate a bi-line. A billion years from now we will still be starting out and this turkey won't even be remembered for a nano second.

He can try to justify himself all he wants, he's still nothing more than a "small" man with a big chip on his shoulder.

the proof is in the pudding as they say. Time will tell if Mr. West is true to his stated intention or just playin the Twitter game to do some damage control. Clearly, he is an ego maniac, not something that one can just "stop" being. If he can demonstrate over the long haul he is sincere it what he is saying now perhaps the backlash will subside. For now, I believe him not a whit.
