TORONTO — On the Ontario set of the sequel to Disney mega-hit "Camp Rock," a Canadian cast member gave teen fan favourites the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato a lesson in Canuck cuisine.

"I got all the Americans to eat grilled cheese with ketchup. That's my thing," says actress Jasmine Richards, 20, an Oakville, Ont. native.

She says she showed U.S. cast members the joys of junk food exclusively available north of the border, like all-dressed and ketchup flavoured chips.

"That's how I rep Canada. I let them know that we have the good stuff," she says laughing.

Richards stars as Peggy, a friend of Lovato's character in the much-anticipated "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" which airs Friday on the Family Channel.

The second movie follows a similar formula to the successful "High School Musical" series and features more song and dance numbers than the first "Camp Rock."

This time around, the teens must save Camp Rock from financial doom after a slick new big-budget rival music camp moves into town.

Other Canadian cast members include Jordan Francis, Daniel Kash and British-born Canadian resident Daniel Fathers.

Richards, a trained dancer, knows that starring in a sequel to a successful Disney musical can lead to more roles and worldwide stardom, but she says she prefers the normalcy of Canada to the glittery lights of Los Angeles.

"I've been to L.A. It's cool, it's fun, it's sunny, but I'm more of a country girl than the hustle and bustle of Hollywood," she says, putting a joking emphasis on the word "Hollywood."

"Canada is my home. it's quiet here, I like it."

Richards was able to stick close to home for the "Camp Rock" shoot, which took place in the Toronto area and the Muskoka region north of the city.

And, she claims to have an advantage over her U.S. co-stars --experience with Canadian insects.

"Most of the (cast members) are from L.A. so when you come to Canada, you're going to deal with our mosquitoes and our black flies and all of that stuff so they were not really liking the bugs or the bees," she says.

Richards, who also starred as Margaret in the Family Channel show "Naturally, Sadie," says she is a normal kid, who does chores, cleans the kitty litter, and goes shopping at discount department stores. She still can't believe she gets fan mail from all over the world.

"Some of them will be from like Poland, and everywhere, and I'm like: 'Really? I have fans in Poland?!,"' she says.

She says she enjoys replying to each letter, and that she understands the sting of sending fan mail and never hearing a response.

"I was once like them, too, writing fan mail to Orlando Bloom but he never responded back to me. I was kind of heart broken," she says with a grin.
