Polaris prize reveals long list for best Canadian CD

TORONTO — The Polaris Music Prize has released its long list of 40 contenders.

The honour is handed out to an artist or band for releasing the best Canadian album of the year and includes a $20,000 prize.

The long list includes well-known rock bands like Blue Rodeo, Broken Social Scene and Tegan and Sara, as well as some more underground indie acts such as Ghostkeeper, Karkwa and South Rakkas Crew.

The short list of 10 albums will be revealed on July 6.

The winner will be debated by a jury and announced on Sept. 20.
