TORONTO — Digging Roots have unearthed a leading six nominations heading into next month's Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.

The group's "We Are" is up for awards including best album of the year and best rock album.

Buffy Sainte-Marie is next with four nominations.

She's up for best album of the year for "Running for the Drum" -- which already netted Sainte-Marie a Juno Award earlier this year. She's also nominated for best female artist, best song single for "No No Keshagesh" and best songwriter.

Multi-instrumentalist Arvel Bird rounded out the nominees for best album. He's up for "Tribal Music Suite: Journey of a Paiute" and earned three nominations in total.

The Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards will be held Nov. 27 in Hamilton.
