CALGARY — Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood has been announced as the special guest star at an advance screening of the new Star Trek movie in Calgary.

Greenwood, who has appeared in the films 'Capote' and `Thirteen Days,' will play Capt. Christopher Pike in the film directed by J.J. Abrams.

The screening will be held next Wednesday for about 300 residents of Vulcan, Alta., who won a lottery for the chance of the sneak peak two days before the May 8 worldwide release.

The town has built a popular tourism industry based on the fact it shares a name with the home planet of popular Star Trek character Mr. Spock.

It had made a pitch to host the latest movie's Canadian premiere, but was turned down.

Actor Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original TV series and several movies, went to bat for the town, which prompted Paramount to agree to the private screening.
