The Dark Knight (July 18, 2008)

The scoop
The follow-up to "Batman Begins," director Christopher Nolan brings the brooding masked avenger back to battle Gotham City's latest criminal mastermind.

The story
Batman (Christian Bale) wages war on the remaining crime crumbs who've wreaked havoc on his beloved city. At long last he and two fellow crime-fighters (Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart) are on a roll, slapping thugs in the slammer faster than the bat car can do Alfred the butler's grocery run.

Unfortunately their clean-up streak screeches to a halt once The Joker (Heath Ledger) throws a deadly wrench into their plans.

The score
There's the best bat suit ever. The cool cave hideaway. The ultra-sweet car. All this, plus Christian Bale makes this one 2008 blockbuster that will drive fans batty.
