The parole hearing for Quebec entertainment mogul Guy Cloutier was suspended today after authorities received an email alleging he had assaulted another child.
Cloutier was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison in December 2004, after he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing Nathalie Simard and another child who has not been identified.
Simard, a former Quebec pop star, was 11 years old when the abuse started. It began in 1980, and lasted for seven years. Cloutier was her manager at the time.
Last May, Simard asked a judge to lift a publication ban on her name, saying it would help her "share her sad experience with the public."
She also launched a $1.2 million civil lawsuit against Cloutier, asking for damages to cover her psychological treatment and medication, loss of revenue, as well as damages for suffering and violation of her rights.
Simard began her singing career at age nine and soon became Quebec's sweetheart. Her brother, Rene, was also managed by Cloutier.
Cloutier is a prominent figure in Quebec for his work as entertainment manager with high-profile Quebec singers, and also as the father of popular personality Veronique Cloutier.
He also produced Loft Story, a reality show, and the musical, Don Juan.
