LOS ANGELES Paris Hilton has been subpoenaed as a witness in a criminal case.
"She's not charged with anything," district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said Tuesday.
"She just happens to be a witness." The case involves burglary, robbery, kidnapping and carjacking charges against Darnell Riley, 28, who was arrested Jan. 22, 2004, for allegedly breaking into the home of Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis and trying to kidnap him, Robison said.
Riley pleaded not guilty, said his lawyer, Ronald Richards. However, one of Riley's associates, allegedly told Hilton of Riley's alleged involvement.
"That was the basis for the probable cause to locate my client's photo, which coincidentally Joe Francis identified," Richards said.
The subpoena was served at the hotel heiress' Hollywood Hills home last week. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said she will "comply with the law" but "I don't see what contribution, if any, she's going to be able to make in that case."
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21. It was not known whether Hilton will be called to testify.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
