TORONTO — Music stars, young Hollywood celebrities and sports heroes will help MuchMusic crown the best music videos of the past year.

Avril Lavigne, Ashanti, Michelle Branch, Sam Roberts and Sean Paul are among those slated to perform at the station's 14th annual awards party on Sunday, June 22.

Celebrities on hand to present awards, which will air live on MuchMusic, include teen heart-throbs Shane West of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and A Walk To Remember, Danny Masterson, who plays Hyde on That '70s Show, actress Rachael Leigh Cook of Fearless and She's All That, and Gregory Smith of TV's Everwood.

Anson Carter of the New York Rangers, Jamaal Magloire of the New Orleans Hornets and Trish Stratus of the WWE will also help distribute trophies.

Other musical talent joining the festivities includes Mya, Sum 41, Swollen Members, Treble Charger, Shawn Desman, BrassMunk and Rascalz.

The awards ceremony is unlike typical shows. The action will take place in the parking lot of the station. On average, about 5,000 enthusiastic, screaming fans line Queen Street West to catch the action.

Rockers Our Lady Peace lead the pack of nominees followed by Treble Charger with five nods, and Chantal Kreviazuk, Matthew Good, Shawn Desman and Swollen Members with four each.

MuchMusic's annual extravaganza takes place the same weekend as the Concert For Toronto, organized as a way to attract people to the SARS-affected city. That sold-out concert will feature some of the same performers, as well as The Barenaked Ladies, The Tragically Hip and Sarah McLachlan.

I think he was pushed to take matters into his own hands. I have a teenage son and if he was involved with a drug dealer I would be furious and try anything to save him like this father did for his daughter. Why do police often say they can't do anything until it's too late? Whether it be a drug dealer or an abusive spouse, the police can't seem to do anything until something really bad happens. In this case they could have raided the drug dealers home and arrested him. The whole town knew what was going on in that house but yet the police chose to do nothing. Release this man and give him a medal for doing the right thing by his daughter. I can't wait to see the episode on W5, I will certainly be watching this one.
