American teens think CTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation is "choice." The homegrown hit series received its second Surfboard at last night's Teen Choice Awards in Hollywood when it was named "Choice Summer TV Show" over several U.S. network primetime series including America's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, The Singing Bee and Don't Forget The Lyrics. The win comes on the eve of Degrassi's launch into U.S. Syndication where it will be seen in 90 per cent of the U.S. market starting in early September. The Ninth Annual Teen Choice Awards were hosted by teen queen Hilary Duff and actor / comedian Nick Cannon and aired live last night from the Gibson Amphitheatre.
Arriving for red carpet duty and taking in the Awards Ceremony in Hollywood last night were Degrassi: The Next Generation cast members Stacey Farber (Ellie Nash), Aubrey Graham (Jimmy Brooks ), Adamo Ruggiero (Marco Del Rossi ), Shane Kippel (Gaven "Spinner" Mason) and Stefan Brogren (Archie "Snake" Simpson ).
"How cool is it that Degrassi gets to take home another Teen Choice surfboard?" said Stephen Stohn, Degrassi's Executive Producer. "This fantastic win comes at a really exciting time for us as the series gears up for daily syndication throughout the U.S. starting just next week."
"Every year, the international buzz that surrounds Canada's own Degrassi gets bigger and bigger," said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group.
The 2007 Teen Choice Awards celebrate the hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion. Celebrities in attendance last night included Jessica Alba, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Megan Fox, Anna Paquin, Emmy Rossum and Ryan Seacrest with live musical performances by Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne.
