I thought the first show was such a fantastic way to start the season. The dancers all looked amazing. They really pulled up. I think before they were dancing hard, but now they're dancing their hearts out and really trying to prove that they're the one to beat.

I love sitting behind the judging table with Tré and Luther and Jean Marc. I think we have good chemistry and a good connection. We're all really different and work really well together.

I was booed a whole bunch, but I really don't mind that at all -- it's inevitable. Sometimes dancers mess up and I say how it is. It might be harsh, but I have to be honest. Feelings might get hurt, but it's a competition and I'm there to judge. I'm not going to sugarcoat my feelings and if the audience is going to boo, they'll boo. Besides, I have a louder mic.

I'm really not looking forward to sending anyone home on Thursday. I am excited though to see the group piece and how the dancers work together. Also, we'll get to see some solos and how badly the bottom three couples want to be in the competition. It's definitely going to be hard to see someone go. It'll be a good show, but it's going to be sad.

Blake, many viewers noticed that Natalli performed Heidi Groskreutz's "Proud Mary" solo on last week's Results Show. Are dancers allowed to use someone else's choreography for their solos? If so, I hope CTV will credit them. Thank you.

Blake big up to you and what your doing for canadian dancers. The only thing I want to know is why do you have to talk to the audience when you are giving your critic? Just do what your doing and don't worry about the boos...you can't please everyone.

I have followed the US show and was so happy that Canada decided to spot light their talent in a similar show. Up until the opening show I felt that the show would be even better than the US show because the dancers were all so talented...the advertisement was great as well. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the opening show "top 20" and not because of the dancing. The choreography was no where near the quality of the routines created for the US show. Why not bring in some amazing choreographers, as it's not just the dancers abitlity that makes for an entertaining show. Also, I felt that the costumes were poor...often the male/female costumes didn't work together..and why are the panties such a contrasting colour? Do you want to draw focus to the Panties? I really hope that the choreography and costumes improve.

Hi, I just need to know the name of the song from Dario's solo in the top 20, and your contemporary choreography in the finals. It's a beautiful song!!
thanks

Kevin? OMG! How can you send him home! I think he was the best male dancer in this competition. He could have done wonders! Why you didn't give him time? I really like all the contestants, but I'm shocked with this first elimination. Please let us know what was the reason? Even in dancing for his life, He was the best one.
Despite that, Great show guys, I am so proud of all the competitors, and great job Blake! You are the best judge.

I am shocked and dismayed that the judges sent Kevin home. Bre, I thought, deserved to go as her solo was weak. But Kevin's solo was brilliant. Outstanding technique. And you send him home!! What is the point of having dancers dance for their lives if their performance will not matter. Dario looks to be another Comfort from SYTYCD USA, sticking around after lame performances while more talented people leave. Kevin did not deserve to go home!

Blake, I think you were afraid that there might be a dancer on the SYTYCD Canadian stage that was a more talented, expressive, enjoyable, strong, and all over amazing than you, so you voted him off!!!

blake, you ROCK! i absolutely love your choreography, especially the promo featuring PCD's "when i grow up." i was hooked from the start and totally blown away when i found it that was you and that you had choreographed that. it is things like that which make me wish i could dance.

p.s. let them boo their hearts out - in the end, you know that you're right. and any good dancer needs just that kind of constructive criticism in order to grow.

Blake:

If you aren't getting booed by the fans you aren't being an honest judge. Don't worry about it, don't appologize. Everyone understands, and we boo anyway!

:D

Keep up the good work

Blake, can you please explain why Kevin was sent home? Dario is very unique and I agree he should have stayed. Nothing personal against the ballroom dancer but i think he should have been sent home. Also, wasn't it difficult to deliberate at the table? (unless i missed you guys exiting.)

Thought judging would be different then the american way. Shame on the judges for kicking kevin out! Of course the only reason they kicked him out was because they had too many lyrical dancers on the show. Why bother seeing their solos if the judges are going to be like that. Even JM said Kevin was the BEST technical dnacer of the bunch.

BOOOOOOOOO TO THE JUDGES!

Blake - shame on you and the judging panel for sending Kevin home - he is the most brilliant of dancers. And with not enough time for an explanation, this was truly a shock. We believe you got this really wrong!!!

Personally,
Did not think that you were harsh at all. The more you talk the more screen time you get...and who could complain about that? :) I admire your dancing and choreography. I would recommend viewers go check out your “myspace” and read about you…they will understand that you come from the heart. Since you competed in SYTYCD US and experienced the constructive criticism you can relate to the dancers and what they need to hear to improve their performances. As for the public, we need someone that will keep it real for those of us that are “dance challenged” (like myself) and sometimes cannot see passed the great personality.

Blake,
I really appreciate that you gave the dancers critiques and suggestions on how to improve. I get irritated when all that is talked about at the end of a so-so dance is that the dancers looked good. Most of the viewing public are people with little or no dance experience, and the reason for having a panel of expert judges is that you know what you are looking for, how the dances should be done, and when the dancers display good technique. The public needs to know when dancers are getting it right and when they miss the mark. We can easily see who is most entertaining and who looks good, but we can't always tell if they are doing the dancing justice. I hope you keep on keeping it real because your mic is louder, and what you say has value. No booing from me!
Looking forward to what promises to be an amazing competition!

Hi Blake,
I thought you were fantastic on the show last night. I couldn't help but feeling that there were times that you wanted to be more "honest". Dancers have to learn to take the criticism even if the audience doesn't want to hear it. It is how they get better. Be honest, keep it real and I hope we will get to see some of your amazing choreography on the show at some point.

Honesty and the criticism that comes with it are crucial for any competition. I believe that's how individuals achieve and exceed their personal goals.
Blake, I respect your opinion as I think you’re a great dancer & your Choreography is amazing. However, the comment about the female dancer looking like a grandmother really didn't get it. I personally thought all the dancers looked beautiful.
My 9 year old daughter loves SYTYCD and she was surprised by the way the judges kept saying how hot the girls were, after while she was predicting what some of the judges would say before they even spoke. At times it seemed like there was more focus on the physical appearance then the actual dancing, this is just a matter of personal opinion and I still have great respect for all the judges. The show is amazing and Canada's top 20 dancers are fabulous – it’s too bad there can only be one winner.
I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. Tammy Kay

I love listening to your feedback. I'm sure the dancers and the audience appreciate your honesty since that's what they need to build on to get stronger. Great stuff!

A really great show considering that there was a lot of pressure on both the dancers and everyone involved to keep the show at the same high level as the US version. I expect the dancers to get better as time goes on, but this was a very strong first show. My real question is how much different the show looks live compared to on TV. I know some of the dances and moves come across differently on screen. Personally I liked the number that Tango with Tamina and Joey, so I am wondering if it came across better on TV than in person. Finally I really think that the male dancers need to use a bronzer or something as the lighting in the studio made them all look like pale ghosts at the end when they are standing with Leah.

Very well put. Keep it harsh, keep it real, that is really how it is.

I thank you for your honesty. While there is a place for positivity and praise I think that constructive criticism is far more valuable. The dancers will gain more from your feedback than if you just tell them they are great. Keep it up - they want to learn how to be better!
LOVE your choreography!
And I can't wait for the rest of the season!

Blake, I just wanna say that I am so glad you're a part of SYTYCD Canada!! You were AMAZING on the inaugural season of SYTYCD usa! You are such a phenomenally gifted artist and dancer and Canadian dancers are so priveleged to have you as one of the judges on the show! Your comments are so insightful, bold and honest. Thanks Blake!
