Gardening in Britain goes back over 500 years. Not quite as far as the monarchy (1060) but then, not much does go back that far.

The Brits have, over that span of time, claimed the #1 spot as the most enthusiastic gardeners in the world.

Take the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew, in London for example.

Started in 1760 by Queen Charlotte (wife to King George the third) on nine acres, Kew now covers more than 300 acres.

There are over 300 full time medical researchers employed there and largest collection of plants in the world also exists on these grounds. Genetic material from every corner of the planet has been collected, categorized and catalogued. Kew is, without a doubt, a horticultural wonder of the world.

That is what I think, anyway. My recent tour of some of the great gardens of Cornwall and Devon in Britain included The Lost Gardens of Helligan, The Eden Project, Trebah Gardens and Glendurgan Gardens.

All are worth a visit: my favourite is Trebah. But you will have to see them all for yourself to determine your favourites."
