I recently helped a client to decorate a nursery. She wanted a baby's room that reflected her style of vintage-charm rather than 'cute and fuzzy'.
My client knew she was expecting a girl and had one request: no pink in the room! I chose a colour combination of dark wood, relaxing foggy blue walls and pale yellow accessories to warm up the space.
The motifs of butterflies and birds gave a room a pretty, yet natural look. It's a room I knew Mom and baby would both like.
Due to our geographical distance of about 30 miles, the demands of her family (she has two other children under the age of four) and my work schedule, we decided to shop for the nursery via the Internet.
I sent her pictures of drapes, tables, art, lamps, etc. and she ordered and had them delivered to her home. I then went to her house after everything arrived and pulled the room together. Surprisingly, the process was trouble-free and when it was finished, it looked exactly as we had both anticipated!
I found it easy to find great things like draperies, lighting, accessories and art from non-traditional baby websites. It's surprising how easy it is to shop online and have items delivered directly to the house; a great option if you don't live near fabulous retail stores or (as in Sarah's case) don't have the time to get out shopping during the day.
On today's show I featured some amazing accessories for a nursery that came from some very unexpected online shopping websites. Most of the items would look just as nice anywhere else in the house- including the nursery.
Here's a list of what we showed to help accessorize a baby's room:
- Sears: Elemis rock lamp, Pink Continuum lamp. Krista and Hartford drape panels;
- Home Depot: Velvet cushion, Leaf cushion, Stone wall decal, framed artwork, area rug and flooring;
- Anthropologie.com: Garden and Parakeet puzzles (used as artwork);
- Urban Barn: Butterfly and Rhino pillows, Aluminum bistro table, Chateau accent table;
- Monte Design: Luca Glider Chair- the most stylish glider on the market!;
- Chapters/Indigo: Storybooks as artwork.
For those of you that enjoy shopping on the internet, there are many baby-specific websites that cater to Canadian mom and dads to-be and ship anywhere in the country. I have complied a list of great sites that will help give you inspiration when decorating a nursery.
Here are my favorite top ten Canadian baby/décor related websites:
- www.akidscorner.com
- www.raspberrykids.com
- www.honey-bunch.com

I think he was pushed to take matters into his own hands. I have a teenage son and if he was involved with a drug dealer I would be furious and try anything to save him like this father did for his daughter. Why do police often say they can't do anything until it's too late? Whether it be a drug dealer or an abusive spouse, the police can't seem to do anything until something really bad happens. In this case they could have raided the drug dealers home and arrested him. The whole town knew what was going on in that house but yet the police chose to do nothing. Release this man and give him a medal for doing the right thing by his daughter. I can't wait to see the episode on W5, I will certainly be watching this one.
