A few weeks ago, as the snow was melting and the sun was shining I had the unique opportunity to do a snowshoe hiking expedition/catering.

Originally, as I understood it, I was merely going to prepare the food for our guests to take to the top of Blue Mountain. After all it was an auctioned-off prize of a catered lunch. What ended up happening was something totally different. I was to go and take part in all the action. The climbing, the eating and wine drinking! What a day to get out of the kitchen.

We ventured up one of the most beautiful slopes in front of the Toronto Ski Club and after a few stops along the way...to catch my breath, we finally made it to the top of the peak. I threw down a gingham tablecloth/picnic spread for all to enjoy.

Smoked almonds, a crudités platter, baguette sandwiches, a thermos of mushroom barley soup, wheels of Brie and Oka, crackers, chocolate and a few bottles of red and white wine were on the menu.

We spent the afternoon laughing, chatting and feeding! Eventually we would end up "sailing" down the hill which was as you can imagine a little easier than the hike upward. Photos documented the trek and at the end of the day I had made some great friends from the whole experience. I can't wait to do it again. Perhaps it could become a weekly thing at the club. I can see it now on the menu board...soup, salad or a hike with Mike as a lunch special!

I better get in shape for next season.
