Pink is back, big time! Karl explains why...

I just received the new April issue of Style At Home at the house.

I have been the Contributing Style Editor there for almost 15 years. It's such a treat when a decorating magazine comes out; I can hardly wait to indulge in all the great stuff the magazine features each month.

The entire April issue is filled with amazing ideas for adding colour to the home. I was especially blown-away by the home of designer Sasha Josipovicz of Studio Pyramid in Toronto. He has a way of layering colours and mixing old/new ones for a current look. "Daring but fabulous" is what I called this picture of his three-year-old daughter's dresser (on page 128, shown right)... certainly pink, but definitely not Barbie. Now that's a PINK dresser that a girl can grow up with! I imagine this dresser in a foyer with the walls painted deep grey, or in a dining room with dark purple walls... a classical furniture piece in a most uncommon colour....

The return of pink...

Pink has been on the tips of many designer's tongues for some time now; a great colour for powder rooms, ensuite baths and sitting rooms. Here are my two favorite pink colours that aren't "too pink" and can be used almost anywhere throughout the house.

Benjamin Moore's Pink Pebble CC-422 (shown right). Like a pink light bulb shining on a taupe wall, its warm, very flattering to the skin and marries well with burgundy and green colour combinations.

Farrow and Ball's Cinder Rose #246 (shown right) is a fantastic intense pink that looks exceptionally nice with grey, yellow or white. The best vintage pink colour out there.

Benjamin Moore's Georgetown Pink Beige HC-56 (shown right). This is a pretty as I get! It's the perfect murky-pink that never screams our friend Barbie. Use it anywhere to give a grown-up, feminine look. Especially good with sage green, grey and off white colours.

COLOUR NOTE: Are you having trouble choosing paint colours for your home?

We have a very special segment on March 19 where I will be answering viewer mail about paint colours and I want YOU to enter!

Simply send us a digital picture of a room in your house that is in desperate need of a new paint colour.

Make sure the picture shows as much of the room as possible (try to get some of the floor and ceiling in the shot) and no people or pets in the picture please.

We will need you to explain why you are having trouble choosing a colour; did you goof up on the last attempt? Do you want to try something daring but afraid that you will make a mistake? Do you have a significant other who doesn't agree with your decorating asthetic? I want to know!

We will also need your first and last name, town and province you live in, and a daytime phone number for us to contact (none of your information will be given away or shared). The producers will be choosing three or four rooms and I'll be putting together a colour plan for each room chosen.

Then... we'll show them LIVE on March 19th. Please try to send your pictures and stories by Friday, March 13th to homedecor@ctv.ca and good luck!

To get in touch with Karl regarding something you've seen on the show or his appearances, please email: homedecor@ctv.ca
