Wallpaper is a big trend in home decorating again. For many of us it's a huge commitment and for others it's a great way to completely change the look of a room without spending a lot of money; its often easier (and less messy) than paint.

On the February 19th show, I've taken some of my favorite wallpapers patterns from Farrow and Ball (a manufacturer of high quality wallpaper and paints) and turned them into simple DIY (do it yourself) projects.

These projects will add colour, style and the trend of wallpaper patterns to your home- without having to put it up on the walls (quite yet! ). Here's how I made the LAMPSHADE SLIPCOVER:

Supplies: wallpaper, lampshade, scissors, pencil, glue or double-sided tape.

Here's How:

  • 1: Create a template by wrapping the lampshade in a scrap piece of wallpaper (kraft paper works too) and trace around the top and bottom edges with a pencil. Leave a 2-3 inch overlap seam of paper. Cut out the lampshade template and check that it fits against the lampshade smoothly.
  • 2: Lay template on your choice of wallpaper and trace. Cut out wallpaper, again checking the fit over the lampshade.
  • 3: Brush a thin, even coat of glue or use double-sided tape to the overlap of paper and press together. Use Cloths pegs to keep the seam closed while glue is drying.

Note: The wallpaper shade should slip on and off easily. Add embelishments like ribbon, buttons, silk flowers or stickers to the slipcover if you wish.

Paper tricks:

  • 1: If you don't want to use glues or double-sided tape, try working with pre=pasted wallpaper.
  • 2: For maximum durability, look for matte-finish vinyl wallpaper, which is easy to wipe clean.
  • 3: Use remnants to line shelves and trays, cover boxes and cookbooks, and wrap gifts.
  • 4: Ask wallpaper shops for outdated sample books and one-of wallpaper rolls.
  • 5: To protect the wallpaper pattern, always trace the template on the back of the paper.
