Survey finds gas prices won't halt Canada Day plans

Canadians may be feeling a pinch at the pumps these days, but those in the know say most people likely won't sacrifice their Canada Day plans to save a few dollars on fuel.
Hot, sunny, summer long weekends are so rare that it seems Canadians will do what they can to maintain their Canada Day habits -- despite soaring gas prices.
Myron Knodel with Investors Group -- which recently did a survey on gas prices and Canadians' spending habits -- says people are cutting back, but not cutting to the bone.
He says people might tinker with their Canada Day plans, such as cycling to an event instead of driving, or going to a local celebration instead of one in another city.
He says people are taking a harder look at luxury activities, such as boating.
But marina operators say people who shell out tens of thousands of dollars or more to buy a boat aren't the ones most affected by high gas prices.
