It's a traveller's nightmare. But for reality show contestants Alex Ali and Lynn Warren, not even a lost piece of luggage could dampen their spirits after they arrived in Ottawa where they will tie the knot.
The gay male couple from CTV's The Amazing Race will marry on Wednesday -- an event that has attracted international media attention.
"It's pretty important. It doesn't have the rings or anything but it certainly has all of our clothes. All of our underwear. I imagine we'll need some of it...You know, a gay man without a suitcase. It's a bad thing," joked Warren to reporters after arriving with his partner Ali on Sunday night at the Ottawa airport.
Although the two were eliminated from the TV competition, they won a chance for happiness courtesy of Ottawa radio station Hot 89.9, which is picking up the tab for the wedding the two couldn't legally have in California. The wedding will be broadcast live to air on Wednesday at 8 a.m. ET.
"We were freaking out, totally jumping up and down," Ali said earlier.
Indeed, the excited nearly-weds find Ottawa as amazing as their impending nuptials.
"Last night, my friends and I were walking around and we were playing a game, like, find a piece of trash," said Ali.
"But I mean, it's a very clean city."
It's not just Ottawa they find welcoming.
"The biggest thing we've noticed is that Ottawa and Canada are filled with happiness and celebration as opposed to just tolerance," said Warren, appearing on etalk DAILY.
Although the ceremony won't be open to the public, the couple has invited fans and well-wishers to attend their bachelor party at Fusion nightclub in Gatineau on Monday night.
While fanfare is mounting as the ceremony approaches, the couple admits it's not just the celebrity treatment they are looking forward to.
"Lynn's looking forward to the rings, I'm looking forward to, when it's all said and done, just relaxing with Lynn at the hotel in bed, knowing that we're married," Ali said.
But the couple won't be receiving good wishes from everyone on Parliament Hill where a bill legalizing same-sex marriage remains stuck in committee, despite the approval of most provinces.
"What Canadians want is for MPs to get back to work, to do their job and part of doing their job, according to the vast majority of Canadians, is to decide this issue. Have a uniform law on this issue and move on," said Alex Munter, President of Canadians for Equal Marriage.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
