CALGARY — A Calgary man has pleaded guilty to strangling and raping his 17-year-old stepdaughter.

Forty-seven-year-old Bradley Rietze was supposed to start his trial for first-degree murder yesterday but instead entered a guilty plea.

Court heard Rietze raped and strangled Brittany McInnes in January, 2010.

He then stuffed her body in a box spring in her Canyon Meadows home.

Detective Tom Barrow says he's glad to see that loved ones won't have to listen to the graphic evidence which was planned for the two-week trial.

Victim impact statements will be read in court tomorrow before Rietze is handed the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder -- life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
