CHATHAM, Ont. Two teens who were rescued from a raft off southwestern Ontario earlier this month have been charged with theft.
Chatham-Kent police allege the teens took a duck-hunting raft from the boat launch area in Shrewsbury, Ont., southeast of Chatham, on Feb. 5.
They floated onto the bay and were unable to return the craft, called a duck blind.
Police alerted the U.S. Coast Guard, who rescued the pair in the early hours of Feb. 6 on Lake Erie.
An 18-year-old man and 17-year-old youth, both of Harwich Township, were arrested Sunday night and charged with theft and possession under $5,000.
The 18-year-old is also charged with failing to comply with a court-ordered curfew.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
