Calgary city workers busted a marijuana grow-op, only to find the operation was legal.
Health Canada had authorized the growing of marijuana in the house but apparently had not shared that information with the city.
"We will be speaking with Health Canada on this," said Wayne Brown of the Calgary Coordinated Safety Response Team. "We do want these legal medical marijuana grow operation houses to comply with the bylaws and codes of the city of Calgary."
On Wednesday, city workers shut down the operation and condemned the house. They said the problem wasn't with the owners growing pot but with them not following the rules.
"Pesticides, herbicides, contraventions of building code requirements, especially in the basement area," Brown said, listing the problems.
Neighbors said the grow-op house was occupied by a family of four but that the father had recently died. It's believed that he was the one licensed to grow the medicinal marijuana.
Also, there are reports that the father was connected to an explosion last fall at another legal grow-op just down the street. That home has also been condemned.
Brown said the city doesn't know if there are any more legal pot operations in Calgary.
"Health Canada doesn't divulge that information to anyone, so we really don't know, we did know of this one and we did know of one previously and that was the one that had the explosion in it," he said.

I feel that if certain organs were in demand, less effort would be made to revive people. Am I being silly? Not really. I had a bad experience in hospital when my heart stopped, the doctors tried to revive me and failed. They stopped and said I was gone. I came around on my own when the nurse was giving a final BP reading of 'zero'. I heard her declare me dead! It was all I could do to shake my head but they never caught on til I was able to open my eyes. You should have seen them scramble then! I thought the nurse was going to faint. The thing is, I think we may write people off too soon when there is something of value to be gained from them.
