Welcome to civil war with modern communications. War has and always will be and ugly, ugly affair, with the objective being to kill as many of the enemy as possible. Imagine if we had the technology available to document and communicate the American Civil War. It will end, hopefully soon. Then expect years of instability and a long learning curve by the ruling regime. Hopefully, in 20 years the people of Libya will feel it was worth it.

Tripoli hospital turned into 'mass morgue'

TRIPOLIWarning: This story contains details that may be disturbing to some readers.

The corpses were splayed on gurneys and rotting. One still had an intravenous tube in his arm. Each body was dumped to the ground, rolled in plastic and heaved to the pile on a truck in a ritual repeated dozens of times without ceremony.

The discovery of as many as 200 bodies at Abu Salim hospital in Tripoli was an appalling scene to witness. Masks did little to filter the stench. The men on duty sprayed the air with deodorizer thinking it might help. It didn't.

We were told that doctors and staff abandoned the hospital during fierce fighting. That was nearly a week ago. When rebels took control of the area a few days ago doctors returned to the hospital, which by then was effectively a mass morgue.

It is unclear how the men, women and children died. The bodies we saw were those of Gadhafi loyalists who were wounded in battle. A poster of Moammar Gadhafi presided over a room slick with blood, water and maggots.

At least two men were shot in their beds. They were on the second floor covered with blankets. As the gurneys were wheeled away you could see where a bullet had passed through the pillow. The blood on the wall hinted at an execution. One of the bodies had a Libyan military card identifying him as a special forces member.

Nobody there claimed to know whether it was Gadhafi or rebel gunmen who executed them. I asked one doctor to give his opinion on how long the two men had been dead. He estimated two or three days, then shook his head and walked down the blood-streaked corridor.

With the battle for Libya in its seventh month the scope of the violence and the lines it has drawn is coming into sharper view. There are claims of atrocities on both sides: Amnesty International says it has evidence the Gadhafi regime employed torture, rape and murder. Rebels are also accused of killing prisoners.

The truth may never be known at Abu Salim hospital. The disposal of each body into the truck was punctuated in the same way: the stinking gurney was kicked down the sloping driveway so it could roll into a parking lot that by sunset was full.

NATO is just the Pirate of the 20-21st centuries. Created by the Americans to promote JUST the American Interests using the Force of Arms and the latest military technology.

It is ONLY about Stealing the OIL from the Libyan people and giving it to the American Corporations.
Look Kuwait, it was Stoles from IRAQ and made a "Kingdom" because it has OIL, They Attacked Iraq because it has OIL, they will Attack Iran for the OIL.
I hope they try to attack Russia for the OIL.
As of Canada NO Need we ever fought for Our Own Interests, we will just Beg them to take it.....

When jumping into this thing when it was almost over, NATO claimed they were doing it to save lives. They assured the public that Gaddafi's forces were going to enter Benghazi and slaughter everyone there.

Where was this "protection" in Tripoli from these thugs who are willing to execute Gaddafi's supporters in their hospital beds?

This will somehow of course, be blamed on the Libyan government forces in an effort to keep up a rosy image for the "protesters" turned "rebels" turned Death Squads.

Shame on NATO.

This is just absurd.
We are murdering , slaughtering human beings.

This whole action by NATO is illegal and morally we have no business being there.
It is a CIVIL WAR.

The one and only reason we are killing Libyans is OIL.
No other reason exists.

Our military is committing armed robbery and murder. Nothing more, nothing less

Shame on you Mr. PM for allowing Canada to act this way.

Next up Syria. Where we get to do it all over again for OIL

At that point WW3 begins.

"Alternative"? the solution chosen by our leaders is killing, murdering and assassination of their leaders? Let me ask you this - would you pull the trigger? The only honorable and respectful alternative is do not interfere! They have ruled themselves for thousands of years if the revolutionary forces are large enough they will overcome and a new leadership will arise. This is the way all civilization work on this planet. Stop all wars and $Trillions would be available to build a peaceful civilizations. So the only Alternative is Stop The Killing! We can do it now or slowly kill ourselves over the next thousand years - it's your choice!

I sometimes feel like other do, stay out, let them fight it out amongst themselves. But then we open our borders, take refugees, give freedom to those that want it. And unfortunately, that brings their violence and conflice to us. We are forced to get involved when our government is asked "Why is nothing being done about this?"

If our government answered "Because it is not our concern" then we would be seen as no better than the ruling, oppressive regimes in question. The whole problem is intolerance, the beliefe that `my religion is best, and any others must be destroyed'. These are the things that must change in order to stop the bloodshed. If a modern man can start a church and persuade his followers to drink poison, then a man can also teach his followers to 'live and let live'. The responsibility lies with the religious leaders.

Slaughter them for the sake of peace, depose and assassinate their leaders, then after 5,000 years of genetically imbedded dictatorships force upon them a Jefferson democracy. This will teach them how to take what ever you want with force powered by the taxes of the middle class who despise wars! Welcome to the world of the Cave Man.

The West has been lucky, so far, that such a widespread scenario of destruction and death has occured in other countrys. One day our luck will run out.

Passive aggression is not constructive or helpful. It takes real courage to act...it takes absolutely none to sit on the sidelines. There have been atrocities on both sides to be sure, however, on one side we have a "monarch" who despises that his subjects spoke out, and thinks it within his power to inflict gruesome harm to them as punishment. On the other side, we have citizens that have banded together to depose tyranny. History is full of similar uprisings to selfish despots. Which side of history do you want to be?

Our Royal Canadian Air Force was tasked with destoying the civilian and military security forces in Libya, in other words, killing all their COPS. Stand down Air Force and let the rebels continue the blood bath. Mission Accomplished!

I have little doubt that American revolutionaries summarily executed a few Redcoats. Sadly, such things are inevitable. NATO exceeded its mandate, but the alternatives, doing nothing, or doing only enough to ensure a long bloody stalemate were hardly attractive either.
Those who oppose NATO's action will probably be condemning them for inaction when the mass graves are uncovered in Syria. There are no good choices when thugs are allowed to control nations.

now that gaddafafidigaidiffi spelled 5 different ways is gone, the rebels have stated they want to impose sharia law. we will see that both sides in this issue are bad

A small taste of the butchers bill the regime ran up over the last 40 years. Thank God for the brave freedom fighters ( and NATO) who put it all on the line to stop the killing and create a real future for their homeland. But it’s not over until the head butcher is in a box in the international criminal court… or a pine box. Until then he will just keep on killing for revenge and profit…

It is a shame that Western countries got involved in this bloodbath. Ghadafi is bad, but who knows that this mob is better.

No matter what happens there is one truth the Middle east they will fight. It does not matter who they will fight. Themselves or outsiders, religious or political (Kind of the same thing) they will fight. Let them sort it out and deal with the winner. Budding in will on make things worse. Yes a lot of people will die...that is going to happen no matter what. People have been fighting over that area since the dawn of humanity do you really think its going to stop.

First we were told NATO was enforcing a no fly zone to keep the peace . No boots on the ground and now it appears NATO forces have been hired to do be mercenaries for the oil companies and other special interest groups whom Ghadaffi wouldnt work with .

@ goNATO you are talking a load of rubbish, nato are only there for one thing and thats because of the oil. The EU countrys all want a bit of the countrys oil nothing else. And as for the rebels, you watch how good they are. In the next few weeks they will be shooting each other and all the tribes in the country will be killing each other its going to be another Irac.

Some of you are silly, this regime had to change and they were never going to stand down peacefully. Troops taking revenge isn't something new, even soldiers of the most disciplined armies of the world will shoot their enemies in revenge after they see the atrocities they have caused. In addition how badly wounded were these men, with no medical help it may not have been an execution but a mercy killing. If your not their you can't say, now can you? JUST GUESS

Congratulations NATO, you have created a hornets nest. This is a tribal conflict which will never be solved. Thousands of more bodies will pile up in the years to come.

If Canada were governed by the military which oppressed its citizens and engaged in genocide and terrorism then i, and i bet most, would applaud a rebellion.

The violence and bloodshed is unnecessary and Ghadafi only needed to step down to prevent it. He has promoted and provoked the violence on his own people including his closest followers or "friends".

Get real Cam! NATO and the rebels are the best thing that has this country has seen in decades!

"Said" So I guess you know what happened when the people there don't know who killed who? It was just as likely that Ghadafi's murdering thugs didn't want any survivors who might be questioned.

A fine murderous lot NATO have jumped into bed with. (although I am sure the air assault has killed many more) Most of these people served in the countries military or police service. Can you imagine the outrage from those applauding this action if it was protesters in Canada slaying security personal. They would be looking for the nearest tree for a good old fashion lynching. As for the UN mandate to save life, hows that work-in for ya. I am sure many will somehow warp reality to make it fit!

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children.
