One woman was killed in an accident involving a Greyhound bus early Saturday morning near Fernie, B.C.

The crash, between the bus and a car, instantly killed the female driver of the smaller vehicle. The woman's name has not been released, but police say she was 34 years old and from Cowley, Alta.

RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau confirmed on Twitter there were "1 maybe 2 serious injuries" involved.

The crash occurred early Saturday on Highway 3, about eight kilometres east of Fernie, in southeast B.C. The Greyhound bus was reportedly travelling between Creston, B.C. and Calgary.

Maureen Richmond, director of media relations for Greyhound, confirmed Saturday afternoon that seven passengers were on board the bus in addition to the driver.

According to Richmond, the passengers and driver were all transported to hospital. Three passengers were treated and released, but Richmond was not aware of the condition of the rest of the passengers or the driver.

A safety team from Greyhound is headed to the crash site to investigate the cause, Richmond said.

"There are a number of different factors that we would be examining in a crash of any kind, let alone one that's this severe."

She said investigators will also conduct a thorough maintenance review of the bus to determine if a mechanical failure played any part in the crash.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
