Flood waters along the Richelieu River, south of Montreal, are expected to continue to rise until Monday but should stabilize later this week.

Officials say water levels could climb another 10 to 15 centimetres and it could be as long as three weeks before they return to normal.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest toured the region Saturday and said the province has created three special disaster teams to assist in the clean-up and reconstruction.

It was Charest's fourth visit to the region.

The flooding is now into its fifth week.

Quebecers are also pitching in to help, as 7,500 people have signed up with the volunteer group S.O.S. Richelieu.

The group plans to launch a cleanup operation for the weekend on June 11 and 12.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
