Police in British Columbia say that a 14-year-old girl was selling sex and attempting to pimp out other teens on Craigslist.
Officers in the Vancouver area were tipped off about the girl's alleged sex work and began investigating the case.
Using Craigslist's "erotic services" section, the teen girl was selling herself and posing as an 18-year-old to prospective clients. Police later found that the teen was also recruiting other teens.
"She was the ringleader," Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop told The Canadian Press. "It's something that's unfortunate to see."
There has been a publication ban on the other girl's ages, but police say the 14-year-old previously knew the other teens she was attempting to bring into the sex work.
The 14-year-old now faces a charge of procuring a minor into prostitution, but more charges could be laid as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old man from Chilliwack, B.C., has been charged with two counts of sex assault in the case.
The offending ad has been removed from Craigslist, which has been facing increasing pressure to remove the erotic section in Canada.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson recently called out the Internet classified site about the erotic services section, which is essentially a listing service for prostitutes.
A similar debate in the U.S. prompted Craigslist to ditch the section.

I feel that if certain organs were in demand, less effort would be made to revive people. Am I being silly? Not really. I had a bad experience in hospital when my heart stopped, the doctors tried to revive me and failed. They stopped and said I was gone. I came around on my own when the nurse was giving a final BP reading of 'zero'. I heard her declare me dead! It was all I could do to shake my head but they never caught on til I was able to open my eyes. You should have seen them scramble then! I thought the nurse was going to faint. The thing is, I think we may write people off too soon when there is something of value to be gained from them.
