ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Police in Newfoundland say human remains recently found in a wooded area are those of a 32-year-old woman who went missing earlier this summer.

Anne Marie Shirran was reported missing on July 19, triggering an exhaustive search in the St. John's area.

Last Thursday, campers discovered human remains in Cappahayden, about 100 kilometres south of the provincial capital.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed Sunday that the remains are those of Shirran, who is from Kilbride, N.L.

Police say foul play is suspected.

Officers are still investigating.
