A man who is facing various charges in the case of alleged torture victim Dustin LaFortune is facing similar charges connected to a female who is under the age of 18.
Calgary police say Dustin Paxton faces charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement of the unnamed minor.
Paxton, 30, is already facing charges that include aggravated assault, forcible confinement and breach of probation in connection with the alleged torture of LaFortune, his former roommate.
Also Wednesday, police confirmed that a seven-minute 911 call about an assault was made at the same time they believe LaFortune was being held against his will in Calgary, but they have not said exactly how the two may be connected.
"It wasn't Mr. LaFortune who made the call," said Calgary Insp. Monty Sparrow.
The call was made on Feb. 28, but the dispatcher never passed on the information to police. Investigators only learned of the call this week.
LaFortune was allegedly tortured for more than a year in two different cities.
Arrest warrants connected to the case indicate police believe LaFortune was held in Calgary between Dec. 1, 2008 and March 2, 2010. Investigators also believe he was confined for a second time in Regina between March 15 and April 16 of this year.
LaFortune weighed just 87 pounds when he was found unconscious at a Regina hospital. He had horrific injuries to his head, and it took more than a month of medical treatment before police were able to speak to him.
He has since been released from hospital. On Monday, he was reunited with family members in Victoria, B.C., where he will continue his treatment.
Paxton's next court appearance on the LaFortune charges is set for Sept. 3.

It is about time - as a grandparent I have watched our kids (who were allowed to fail although I do remember some nagging on our part) learn, I have watched our children now micro-manage their children. A big part of it is the fact that there are predators out there and an extreme reluctance on the parents part to alllow freedom that might result in the children becoming victims.
