MEAT COVE, N.S. — RCMP say a tourist visiting Cape Breton from Montreal is recovering in hospital after falling over a cliff.

Police say the 30-year-old man was walking in the dark in Meat Cove early Thursday when he fell down a steep rock embankment onto the shore.

He injured his leg and suffered a number of lacerations.

Police say the injured man sat in the dark for several hours until a camper in the area noticed his flashlight and heard him yelling.

A high-angle rescue team was several hours away, but emergency personnel were able to reach the man by boat and take him to safety.
