Pamela Anderson to help launch anti-seal hunt ads

Date: Thursday Oct. 22, 2009 1:53 PM ET

TORONTO — Pamela Anderson will help launch a new ad campaign against the Canadian seal hunt Friday morning at the Ontario legislature in Toronto.

The Canadian actress and activist is one of several celebrities who will be part of the PETA campaign calling for an end to the annual seal hunt.

They will be wearing PETA's "Save the Seals" T-shirt, which was previewed this summer by Sarah McLachlan at a Canada Day concert.

Among the other Canadians featured in the ad campaign are Jayde Nicole (of the teen TV show The Hills) and Battlestar Galactica stars Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.

Others include rocker Kelly Osborne (who appears on the current season of Dancing With the Stars) and blogger Perez Hilton.

PETA says the ads will appear in entertainment magazines and on blogs and will be tweeted in many languages starting this fall, to keep pressure on the government year-round instead of just during the spring when protests are expected.

"I can only hope that by bringing attention to the slaughter, the international outcry will force the Canadian government to end this shameful practice," Anderson said in a statement.

"Canadians aren't cruel and indifferent, but our leaders have been on this issue."

Lets see - Kelly Osbourne, Pam Anderson, Perez Hilton - now that's a group that has an informed position on the seal hunt. When are we going to stop giving attention-seeking, D-level celebrities and has-beens a voice. Their narcissism (and unfortunately the fact that there are people who listen to their uninformed dribble) give them a bloated sense of self-importance. Just go away - all of you!

Gee, that's funny,...Someone should tell her what make-up is made out of,...Let's see what she has to say about that. Will she stop wearing make-up? I dont think so.

The seal hunt is old culture, and way of life for may in this country. Not just for the people of the east coast. The place where Pamela once called home. Time to find out where your roots lie. And support where you came from girl.

Thank You Pam for taking a positive stand for those without a voice. Save the Seals from cruel slaughter, absolutely. To all those Canadians who apparently live in Glass Houses declaring other species pests, how dare you judge anything. Instead join in a local campaign to help the First Nations claim what is rightfully theirs, like the land we all live on and take for granted. instead of turning the reservations into Casino's for the Healthy and Wealthy, let the First Nations establish Green Economies. Peace. Spiral Out.

We are always to quick to blame the seals. They do the same in BC with wolfs. We are the ones that put nature out of balance. This is another example of gross mismanagement of our natural resources.

She sees only from one perspective. She thinks only one way. She acts as if she is society's moral compass. I have a mind of my own and will exercise it in whatever manner 'I' see fit. My life is not lived based on the dictates of one woman, or group of people, who try to manipulate others into what they perceive as appropriate behaviour.

As a Canadian I am ashamed that my government continues to support this cruel slaughter. I support you 100% Pam!!!!!

I don't think anyone who protests our seal hunt lives anywhere near the ocean... if they did, they would realise that as cute as those baby seals are, they grow to to be pests! They EAT the livelyhood of the people dependant on the sea for a living and they leave a MESS where ever they go.

Pamela Anderson should just stay out of an issue she is not fully aware of. There's not a lot of seal hunting going on at the Ontario Legislature last time I looked. Maybe while Pammie is there McGuinty will sign her on as a consultant at eHealth!

And how about we make a subsequent advertisement showing the disruption to Inuit life this causes on those communities? They don't care about the seals they only care about making headlines. All washed up has beens and never will bes attending this.

Okay this woman is going to tell us all how to live now. Lets see what she has done for the world, promoted breast implants, drug use? She is a good one to tell Canadians how to live. Why doesn't she go the way of Paul McCarteny's ex and just go away and take all the bleeding hearts with you.
