OTTAWA — The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are set to visit Canada next summer.

Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean confirmed the mid-2010 visit in a statement Sunday.

But details on where the Queen and Prince Philip would stop, the length of their trip and the exact arrival date are still up in the air.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper had invited the Queen during a visit to Buckingham Palace last April.

"It is always a high honour to host a royal visit," Harper said in a statement.

"This visit by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be a celebration of our shared heritage and values which are enduring sources of pride for millions of Canadians."

These will be the first major visits of the Royal Family to Canada since the Conservatives took office.

The Queen last visited Canada in 2005, touring Saskatchewan and Alberta for their centennial years.

She paid a much longer, cross-country visit to Canada in 2002 to mark her golden jubilee.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the duchess of Cornwall, are scheduled to visit Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and the National Capital Region this November.
