While the transit strike has grabbed headlines in the nation's capital, Ottawa postal workers are also walking the picket line.

Canada Post administrative and technical workers went on strike Nov. 17 after rejecting a final offer from their employer the previous week.

Now, more than three weeks later, many who've been held up at picket lines say their nerves are frayed.

Union members at Canada Post's head office at Riverside Drive and Heron Road were holding each car for 15 minutes on Thursday before letting the vehicle through. Some motorists say they waited more than three hours to pass the picket line.

"We have no respect for them. Maybe if we show the union that, they will realize they should go back to work," said Peter Westaway.

Although the weather has now dipped below the freezing point, striking workers say they plan to continue picketing until the main dispute regarding sick days is resolved.

The company proposal would cut sick days from 12 to seven days per year. The offer on the table would also prevent employees from accumulating sick days or over time.

The striking workers represent three per cent of all Canada Post employees.
