VANCOUVER Traffic through the Vancouver International Airport was delayed Sunday for about two hours because of an apparent security breach.
A suspect image was spotted at a screening point.
"The screen officer noticed on their screen what they thought could be a prohibited item,'' said Renee Fairweather with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
She said it wasn't clear what the object was but prohibited items include liquids and sharp objects. A firearm, however, would have been more evident on a screen.
The bag in question had already left the screening point, and a decision was made to rescreen the passengers.
Departure lounges were evacuated and departure gates were closed for just over two hours, causing major lineups across the airport.
At least four planes on the tarmac were asked to return to the terminal so passengers could be rescreen.
The delay affected international and domestic flights.
