Fern Regan has been a dedicated seller of Remembrance Day poppies for 12 years, and this year is no exception.

People using the Guildwood station are probably familiar with Regan. At this time every year, the 83-year-old is standing in the station, enduring the pain a mild case of arthritis in her knees.

She said her efforts pale in comparison to what soldiers endured during the wars.

"It makes me feel like a million dollars. I am blessed to be here," said Regan.

Commuters notice Regan and admire her dedication.

"I'm amazed at Fern. She's here at 5:45 a.m., I'm just rolling out of bed that hour," one commuter told CTV News.

Selling poppies is a personal project for Regan. Her brothers served in the army and navy during the Second World War. Her late husband Jack also served in the army.

"I wish more people would come out and sell poppies, you couldn't ask for more dedication than from a member of the Royal Canadian Legion," commented another commuter.

Regan is determined to keep supporting The Royal Canadian Legion before age catches up with her.

Meanwhile, GO Transit plans to show its support by giving veterans free rides on Remembrance Day.

This short piece illustrates perfectly the problem with the adversarial legal system, where the idea of actual guilt is irrelevant to all participants in the pantomime. I support the vigorous defence of a person's rights, but also grasp why lawyers come across slimy. It's hard to look crystal clear and clean when you provide your services on a foundation of one set of acceptable lies against another.
