OTTAWA Good Friday was also a National Day of Remembrance marking the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The 1917 battle proved to be a coming of age for Canada.
It was the first time all four divisions of the Canadian Corps went into battle together.
And the Canadians did what other allied forces could not -- they took Vimy Ridge.
The success earned Canada a separate signature on the Versailles Peace treaty.
April 9th officially became Vimy Ridge Day last year in a bid to honour those who sacrificed their lives at Vimy.
Canada suffered more than 10,000 casualties, including almost 3,600 deaths.

This short piece illustrates perfectly the problem with the adversarial legal system, where the idea of actual guilt is irrelevant to all participants in the pantomime. I support the vigorous defence of a person's rights, but also grasp why lawyers come across slimy. It's hard to look crystal clear and clean when you provide your services on a foundation of one set of acceptable lies against another.
