HOUSTON — Former U.S. first lady Barbara Bush has been released from a Houston hospital a week after undergoing ulcer surgery.

A spokeswoman for Methodist Hospital says the former first lady was discharged Tuesday morning. She's in good condition and recovering as expected.

Bush, 83, was hospitalized a week ago for abdominal pains and underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer Nov. 25.

During the surgery, doctors closed a nearly 1.5-centimetre hole caused by the ulcer.

She began a liquid diet Monday after some test results came back normal.

This short piece illustrates perfectly the problem with the adversarial legal system, where the idea of actual guilt is irrelevant to all participants in the pantomime. I support the vigorous defence of a person's rights, but also grasp why lawyers come across slimy. It's hard to look crystal clear and clean when you provide your services on a foundation of one set of acceptable lies against another.
