WINNIPEG - The CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Thursday they would not submit a bid to host the 2002 Grey Cup.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints and other factors we couldn't go forward with the bid, Blue Bombers' president and CEO Lyle Bauer said in a statement. We're hopeful that we can work with our stakeholders on putting together a successful bid for a future Grey Cup.

The Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders have expressed an interest in hosting the game, although Edmonton is hosting the 2001 world track and field championships and Calgary hosted the Cup last year.

The 2001 Grey Cup will be held in Montreal and the 2003 Grey Cup has been claimed by Saskatchewan.

The Stampeders made more than $1 million from the Cup last year and the Eskimos turned an even greater profit in 1997.
