Jason Kidd scored 28 points, including the winning tip-in with less than 13 seconds left in the game to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 97-95 win over the Vancouver Grizzlies on Tuesday. After erasing a 14-point halftime deficit, the Grizzlies led 89-83 with 2:37 left in the game. But in what has become Vancouver tradition, the late lead quickly disappeared.

Kidd scored 12 straight points for Phoenix to give the Suns a 97-95 lead with 12.7 seconds left.

Both Kevin Edwards and Othella Harrington had chances in the final seconds but both their shots went off the rim.

Rodney Rogers scored 17 points off the bench while Shawn Marion and Tony Delk added 12 for Phoenix, which improved to 17-9.

Mike Bibby scored 21 points and added seven assists while Michael Dickerson finished with 19 points as Vancouver loses its third straight game and fell to 9-20.

The Grizzlies played the entire fourth quarter without Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who was left on the bench after struggling early. In 34 minutes - all but 10 in the first half - he scored 10 points and grabbed five boards but turned the ball over four times.

Nerves may have played a factor early on for the Grizzlies as the game was broadcast in the U.S. on TBS. It was only the fourth time in team history that a Grizzlies game has appeared on a U.S. network.

The Suns jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Vancouver failed to hit its first five field-goal attempts. But then the Grizzlies came back with a 12-4 run and finished the opening quarter with a 20-19 lead.

After shooting 41 per cent in the first, Phoenix came back to take a 14-point lead. The Suns got eight points each from Shawn Marion and Rodney Rogers as the team ended the second with a 13-2 run for a 49-35 lead. Vancouver shot just 34 per cent from the field during the period and was outscored 30-15.

But the Grizzlies narrowed the gap to 68-66 after shooting 79 per cent from the field in the third quarter and getting nine points from Bibby and eight from Ike Austin.

Vancouver completed the comeback early in the fourth quarter to take its first lead since the second quarter, but they couldn't hang on.
